  • I’ve always been a fan of Renoir. While his later works lacked substance, his earlier forays into Impressionism were masterful. I love how perfectly he captures the emotions and feelings of his subjects, like in this one (this painting being my favourite of Renoir’s works). Those people, what are they looking at? I’d give just about anything to know. The faces, the motion, the strokes, it’s all so much better than the attempts of other Impressionist painters. Particularly that bastard Caillebotte, his obsession with masculinity echoes the chauvinistic expectations and values of a decaying artistic vanguard.
